How To Change A Toner Waste Bottle

All printers/copy machines have a bottle that catches all of the toner that is wasted. From time to time, these bottles will need to be changed. Different printer models will have different indicators to inform you that the waste toner bottle needs to be changed.

Normally a printer/copier with an LCD display will give an error code when the waste toner bottle needs to be changed. The printer/copier will still continue to work for a time when this code comes up. It’s best to change the bottle as soon as the code appears to prevent damaging the printer/copier.

If you are unsure how to change the waste toner bottle on your specific brand or model of printer/copier, consider using Youtube to find a “how to” video. Regardless of the model or brand of printer/copier you are using, you will need to turn off the power and unplug the machine prior to changing anything internally. This is just a safety measure.

Almost all printer/copiers have an access door on the front or back of the machine. This door will need to be opened and inside you will see all of the inner workings of the printer/copier. You should also see a large, opaque plastic bottle that has black powder inside. Each model is different: some waste cartridges are the entire width of the machine and others are only as large as a soda can. Additionally, almost all waste containers are labeled as such, just so there is no question.

Taking out the bottle requires you to unscrew or lift out the bottle from its resting place. When doing so, remember to keep the bottle level and to never tip the bottle upside down. Tipping the bottle upside down will result in a huge mess of black printer powder all over you, the printer and the floor. This toner is very difficult to clean up and will stain.

After you have removed the old bottle you can immediately insert a new bottle in the reverse order from removal. Your job is done and you are ready to make copies or print information. Remember to dispose of the old waste bottle correctly.
